"I had no idea what my husband's palliative care diagnosis meant until I rang the Palliative Care Helpline. A professional person explained palliative care to me in layman terms, took the time to ask me about my situation, gave me contact numbers for several local services that I would require and gave me much needed emotional support. I feel confident now, knowing that I can ring the Palliative Care Helpline as my needs change and have access to a nurse, a social worker, a counsellor and receive spiritual support".
Testimonials
"I am emotionally and physically drained from caring for my wife 24/7, these past eighteen months. Since the removal of her brain tumor and the radiation and chemotherapy treatment, she has deteriorated a great deal both mentally and physically. At the moment, her MRI is clear, but I am utterly depleted and just need a couple of days to myself to sleep. I rang the Palliative Care Helpline and spoke to a very patient person who really understood what I was going through. It was wonderful to be able to get my frustration, distress and concerns "off my chest"... it was like unloading a boulder. I spoke with a nurse who helped me prepare some questions to ask our doctor. I was given some numbers for carer respite and I am so grateful that I made that call to the Palliative Care Helpline. Now I know that I am not alone".
